About the Role

About Our Client

We are partnered with a renowned international Tier 1 civil engineering contractor with a significant presence across Ireland and Europe. The organisation is widely recognised for delivering major transport and infrastructure schemes of national importance, supported by strong governance, advanced planning capability, and a proven track record in large-scale program delivery.

Their portfolio includes complex road, highways, and rail schemes, along with multidisciplinary civil engineering works requiring sophisticated scheduling, interface management, and rigorous project controls. The business operates at the forefront of major infrastructure delivery and is well positioned for long-term growth across the Irish transport sector.

Senior professionals value the company’s stability, investment in digital project controls, visibility to executive leadership, and the opportunity to influence large, technically demanding programs from early planning through completion.

What They Are Looking For

The organisation is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Civil Planner to join its major projects team in the Greater Dublin Area. This is a high-impact role reporting into senior project leadership and working closely with project directors, commercial leads, and engineering teams to shape and deliver planning strategies for complex civil and transport schemes.

This appointment exists to strengthen planning capability across a growing pipeline of major road, highway, and rail projects. The successful candidate will lead the development of high-quality schedules, manage critical interfaces, provide analytical insights to project leadership, and support contractual planning requirements under key infrastructure contract frameworks.

A planning professional who is confident in both technical planning detail and strategic decision-making will thrive in this environment. Strong communication skills, the ability to influence multidisciplinary teams, and a proactive approach to risk mitigation are essential.

Why This Role Is Unique

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of program development and schedule leadership for some of the most strategically significant transport schemes in the Dublin region. You will work directly with senior project and regional leadership, gaining visibility and influence across major civil engineering programmes.

The position provides a platform for long-term progression within project controls, planning leadership, or broader operational roles in one of the industry’s most respected Tier 1 contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and maintain master and detailed schedules for major civil and transport schemes using Primavera P6.

  • Lead strategic planning workshops with senior project leadership, defining execution strategy, project phasing, and milestone structures.

  • Identify and coordinate complex technical interfaces between design, procurement, civil works, specialist subcontractors, and regulatory stakeholders.

  • Implement progress measurement systems and produce detailed weekly and monthly progress and critical path analysis reports.

  • Support risk and change management by integrating mitigation strategies into the programme and preparing planning inputs for contractual claims and extensions of time.

  • Develop resource-loaded schedules in collaboration with operational teams to support planning, logistics, and cost forecasting.

Criteria for the Role

  • Significant experience as a Senior Planner or Lead Planner within a civil engineering or major infrastructure environment.

  • Strong background in transport and civil infrastructure delivery, including roads, highways, rail, or major utilities.

  • Expert proficiency in Primavera P6, with experience in BIM integration or other planning tools considered advantageous.

  • Strong understanding of planning obligations under NEC and GCCC contract frameworks.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex programme information to diverse stakeholders.

  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

What’s On Offer

A competitive salary of up to €100,000 reflective of senior-level planning expertise.
The opportunity to lead programme development for major transport schemes across the Greater Dublin Area.
A senior role within a globally recognised and financially stable Tier 1 contractor with a strong forward pipeline.
