About the Role
Civil Estimator – Adelaide
Major Civil & Infrastructure Programs | Executive Pathway | Nationally Respected Contractor
About Our Client – A Tier-One National Civil & Infrastructure Leader
Our client is one of Australia’s most established and influential civil construction groups, recognised for delivering technically complex infrastructure that supports long-term national growth. Their reputation is built on engineering excellence, commercial discipline and the ability to execute large-scale civil projects with absolute certainty.
Operating across transport, utilities, defence, renewables, resources and large land development programs, the business maintains a strong financial position and a collaborative, people-first culture that consistently attracts high performance talent.
In South Australia, they are entering a strategic growth phase driven by sustained government and private-sector investment. As part of this expansion, the Adelaide precontracts division is strengthening its senior estimating capability, creating a high-impact role for a civil estimator seeking influence, visibility and long-term progression.
What They Are Looking For
The business is seeking a technically capable and commercially minded Civil Estimator who can influence bid strategy, pricing governance and competitive positioning across major civil tenders.
Working alongside senior operational, engineering and commercial leaders, you will support tender submissions spanning road infrastructure, utilities, structures, earthworks and broader civil programs. Your role extends beyond pricing—your judgement and expertise will help shape methodology, risk profile, subcontractor engagement and overall bid direction.
This position will suit someone who combines strong technical costing skills with strategic thinking, stakeholder management and the ability to make confident recommendations in a fast-paced bid environment.
Why This Role is Unique
This is a genuine opportunity to step into the strategic engine room of a high-performing national contractor. You will directly influence which projects the business pursues, how they are structured and how they compete in an increasingly sophisticated civil infrastructure market.
Your work will have meaningful impact on the company’s growth trajectory in South Australia, and strong performers will be supported toward progression into senior estimating, precontracts leadership or commercial management roles as the business continues to expand.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead first-principles estimating, cost modelling and pricing strategy across major civil tenders
• Work collaboratively with engineering, delivery and commercial teams to refine methodologies, programme inputs and procurement pathways
• Conduct risk analysis, identify cost opportunities and contribute to value-engineering solutions
• Assess supply chain conditions, subcontractor pricing and market dynamics to strengthen competitive positioning
• Support tender writing, submission structuring and client engagement across ECI, D&C, alliance and hard-dollar environments
• Maintain estimating governance including benchmarking, database accuracy and bid review processes
• Assist with project handover, ensuring clarity on commercial assumptions, scope and strategic inputs
Criteria for Success
• Strong estimating experience within civil construction or infrastructure
• Demonstrated capability in first-principles estimating across roads, earthworks, utilities, structures or similar scopes
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to work effectively within a senior precontracts environment
• Ability to engage confidently with internal and external stakeholders, including subcontractors and bid partners
• Proficient in contemporary estimating systems such as Expert Estimation or CostX
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline
