About the Role

About Our Client

We are partnered with a highly respected major civils and infrastructure contractor with a strong presence across the Munster region. Known for delivering large-scale public and private sector works, the organisation is recognised for its technical capability, collaborative delivery model, and robust commercial governance across complex environments.

Their portfolio spans essential water, wastewater, infrastructure, and heavy civil engineering projects, each delivered with a focus on safety, innovation, and cost certainty. With a stable pipeline of secured work across the Cork region, the business continues to strengthen its commercial and operational teams to support long-term strategic growth.

As a well-structured and financially secure contractor, they offer senior commercial professionals meaningful autonomy, visibility to leadership, and opportunities to influence project strategy and wider business performance.

What They Are Looking For

The organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to play a key commercial leadership role within their Cork-based civils division. Reporting to the Commercial Manager and working closely with Project Directors, this role will assume full commercial responsibility for major water and infrastructure projects.

This appointment supports sustained growth across the Munster region and the increasing complexity of ongoing civil engineering works. The successful candidate will lead commercial strategy, contractual administration, financial governance, and risk management across high-value projects, ensuring strong commercial outcomes and compliance with all client and contractual requirements.

A confident, detail-driven commercial leader with strong communication skills and the ability to influence both internal teams and external stakeholders will thrive in this high-impact role.

Why This Role Is Unique (Impact & Influence)

This is a strategic senior appointment offering full ownership of commercial performance across mission-critical civil engineering infrastructure. The successful candidate will shape commercial strategy, guide junior QS talent, and play a crucial role in the contractor’s long-term growth across Munster. The role also provides a clear pathway into Commercial Management for those seeking further progression.

Responsibilities

  • Lead full commercial and contractual management across major water and infrastructure projects, including detailed cost control, forecasting, and CVRs.

  • Administer and interpret complex contract forms—particularly Irish Public Works Contracts (GCCC) and FIDIC—ensuring full compliance and entitlement.

  • Identify, measure, value, and negotiate variations, claims, and compensation events to maximise commercial recovery.

  • Oversee procurement and negotiation processes for specialist civils subcontract packages; manage valuations, payments, and final accounts.

  • Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks, including ground condition issues and scope variations.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior members of the commercial team.

Criteria for the Role

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a major civils or infrastructure contracting environment in Ireland or the UK.

  • Strong experience managing civil engineering projects, ideally including water, wastewater, networks, or heavy civil infrastructure.

  • Expert knowledge of Irish Public Works Contracts (GCCC) with practical experience administering them.

  • Exceptional commercial awareness, financial management capability, and negotiation skills.

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related discipline.
