What They Are Looking For
The business is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team and take ownership of the financial, contractual, and risk management aspects of major construction projects. Reporting to the Commercial Manager and working closely with multidisciplinary delivery teams, this role will ensure cost certainty, value optimisation, and commercial governance throughout the full project lifecycle.
This appointment supports ongoing growth and the demand for strong senior commercial leadership across high-profile projects. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in guiding commercial strategy, leading procurement, managing subcontractor packages, and ensuring robust reporting and compliance. As a senior member of the QS function, they will also coach and mentor junior colleagues, contributing to a culture of excellence and continuous professional development.

Responsibilities

Lead commercial management activities across your assigned projects from pre-contract to final account.

Oversee subcontractor procurement processes and prepare detailed contract trade budgets.

Conduct cost analysis, evaluate subcontractor quotations, and negotiate competitive commercial agreements.

Manage subcontractor appointments, valuations, and payment cycles.

Prepare cash flow forecasts, interim valuations, and commercial reports.

Lead change order management and agree final accounts with client representatives.

Provide guidance and mentorship to junior QS team members, fostering a high-performance culture.
Criteria for the Role

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar senior QS role and approximately 10 years’ industry experience.

Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related discipline.

Proven ability to manage complex projects across cost planning, procurement, contract administration, and risk management.

Demonstrated capability in leading, mentoring, and developing junior team members.

Highly organised, self-motivated, and capable of managing competing priorities.
